Making A Test / Shorting Plug

The shorting / test plug can be used during the tail light wiring process for testing the wiring, handy for completing the installation over several days and still using your car for daily driving, troubleshooting and trailer towing (bypassing the Motion Signals circuitry).

Step 1

You need to purchase the trailer plug shown at left, it's available at most auto parts stores and some department stores, the vendor may be different - but the plugs are standard.

Note: You will need to purchase 2 of these - one per side.

Step 2

Here's a view of the plug straight out of the package - notice the (3) male and (1) female pins.

Step 3

Cut and strip the white, brown and green leads approx 2 inches from plug as shown - this will give you factory look 2 brake lights per side or cut and strip the yellow wire for 3 brake lights per side.

Step 4

Now tie the wires together, add a wire nut and you're done. Shown is the 2 brake light plug.
